About the course

Experience the Cello Festival as a Spectator!

For those who love the cello and want to immerse themselves in the festival without actively participating as a musician, we offer a fantastic observer experience.

Friday – An Inspiring Start

As a spectator on Friday, you’ll get a unique insight into the festival’s teaching and rehearsal process. You’ll have access to four different workshops led by our main instructors—you can choose to follow one from start to finish or move between them for a broader experience. Throughout the day, you can also listen to the festival orchestra’s rehearsal and get a behind-the-scenes look at the musical process.

Dinner is included in your day’s program, and in the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to end the day with the spectacular 8CELLI! concert. Please note that concert tickets are purchased separately.

Saturday – A Day Full of Musical Discoveries

Saturday is a content-rich day for spectators.

Start the Day with Inspiration!

9:00 AM & 11:00 AM – Lecture 1 with Olle Davidsson:

"I Won the Audition – Now What?"

Unwritten rules, etiquette, and how to be a valued colleague in an orchestra.

10:00 AM & 12:00 PM – Lecture 2 with Olle:

"Practice Techniques for Those Who Weren’t Born with a Cello in Hand"

Smart, efficient, and sustainable ways to improve.

Masterclasses & Ensembles

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Open Masterclasses with our main instructors:

Toke, Niels, Richard, and Judith-Maria (baroque cello).

As a spectator, you can watch these masters in action and gain valuable pedagogical insights.

At the same time, several groups will be rehearsing their cello ensembles under the guidance of the festival’s teachers.

Lunch is included, followed by an exciting AMA session (Ask Me Anything) at 1:45 – 2:30 PM, where you’ll have the chance to ask questions to our instructors.

Afternoon Preparations & Rehearsals

After lunch, the festival’s cellists will work in smaller groups during sectionals, where they refine their orchestral parts with a teacher. This is followed by a dress rehearsal for the evening’s grand concert.

The day concludes with a shared dinner, and if you want to experience the festival’s highlight, you can purchase a separate ticket for the evening concert at Håslöv Church.

Why Attend as a Spectator?

As a spectator, you get a unique opportunity to experience the festival’s pulse, listen to world-class teaching, and be part of an inspiring cello community. Welcome! ✨

What’s So Great About Masterclasses Anyway?

Great question! A masterclass is so much more than just a regular lesson—it’s a live, interactive glimpse into masterful teaching. Here’s why masterclasses are incredible:

🎵 A Direct Insight into High-Level Pedagogy – Watching an experienced teacher work with a student in real-time provides a unique understanding of how technique, musicality, and interpretation evolve.

🎵 Learn by Listening – You’ll hear how the same piece can transform through subtle yet crucial changes in phrasing, dynamics, and tone.

🎵 Insights You Can Apply Yourself – Even if you’re not the one playing, you’ll recognize many of the challenges and gain tips that can directly improve your own playing.

🎵 Musical Aha-Moments – Masterclasses often have magical moments where something suddenly clicks—both for the performer and the audience.

🎵 Different Perspectives & Playing Styles – Listening to multiple teachers and students broadens your understanding of musical expression and interpretation.

🎵 Inspiring & Motivating – No matter your level, a great masterclass can ignite your passion for practicing, experimenting, and growing musically.

In short, a masterclass is like being a fly on the wall in a master’s workshop, watching how subtle details, nuances, and artistic choices shape the music. An invaluable experience for any cellist—or music lover! ✨
