About the course
THE MIDIS!
Who? You who are 9-17 years old and attend the Kulturskolan, or take private lessons. Or you
who is an adult, a former Cultural School student, or of course you who are simply a happy amateur.
Playing the cello is not that difficult!
Dear Midi cellists,
We are happy to invite you to our upcoming cello festival! As part of Midi-
group you will be at the heart of all the joy and inspiration. You will participate
in the large cello orchestra and play amazing pieces that we will soon share
with you.
Here's a little preview of your schedule:
Friday:
Arrival in the afternoon followed by an orchestra rehearsal conducted by Samuli Örnströmer.
After dinner, we enjoy the teachers' concert in Skanör church, 8 Celli!, together.
Saturday:
Morning: Chamber music lessons and voice rehearsals with instruction from, in addition to Samuli, cellists from Malmö Opera and Malmö Symphony Orchestra. Kulturkolaarna's teachers are very welcome to join in and play today! There will be different group constellations in the morning, and you (children and adults) can "sneak away" for 1 hour if you want to listen/watch one of the advanced classes.
After lunch, there will be a fun AMA (Ask Me Anything) moment with the teachers - who can come up with the best question, one that will make everyone think? Or make everyone laugh?
Afternoon: Orchestra rehearsal with a long break in the middle.
Evening: Student concert, Future Cellists, in Stora Hammar Church, where you get to perform!
Sunday
We are doing a repeat of the Saturday concert, this time in the Artisten, or Vellinges Kulturskola, large and beautiful Concert Hall.
Repertoire
The student concert consists of various constellations of cello chamber music, baroque ensemble and even some double bass, in the first half, and the cello orchestra after the break.
The orchestra will play a selection of the pieces we will have rehearsed on Friday and Saturday (but not necessarily all of them). We are very proud of the repertoire we have managed to get this year, as it will be as much fun to listen to as it is to play, no matter which part you choose – and there are parts for everyone: from the very simple rhythmic parts in cello 4 and 5, to the quite challenging ones in cello 1 or 2. And best of all, we will be accompanied by Malmö Opera's own percussionist, Niklas Holmberg!
Here is the joint orchestra program.
Ring, Ring
Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Hallelujah
Queen Don't Stop Me Now
Lemon Tree
Pirates of the Caribbean
A Summer Medley
Please let us know if you would like to participate in a small ensemble. We cannot guarantee that this will be arranged, but we will do our best!
Practical details:
The food is included:

We eat food made especially for us, at Sundsgymnasiet, next to Vellinge Kulturskola.
We have tried to build in breaks between classes where you can take a short walk outside, or go and visit Nadine Nilsson, from Nilsson's Violin Studio, to learn about cello care, or take a short trip to the cello accessories market. There will be a coffee corner in the Foyer, and quite a lot of free time around meals.
For those who do not have access to their own car, we try to arrange transportation to the churches either by carpooling or by minibus.
The number of places is limited, register early!
We really look forward to meeting you and creating an unforgettable experience together!
